And then!

They tell me stories
Constructed like tapestry
Like quilts
Bits and pieces of beauty
The dresses of beggars and princesses
Magic!
Lots and of magic
In their eyes
The color of the water
That started our magic storytelling

I begin to notice
The bold stitching
As they weave between princesses at an eternal ball

And then! Says the older princess
And then! Says her sister

Magic.
As real as the wands and dragons, spindles and romance
And don’t forget evil
Stepmothers

Real-er,
Really.
